I always thought I had to sing someone else's words,

that mine were not good enough.

I always thought I had to think someone else's thoughts,

that mine were not flushed out enough.

I always thought I had to say someone else's words,

that mine didn't carry much value.

I didn't start writing poetry until I was 23. Although that may seem young, consider that I now write poetry daily. I think in verse. It remains the center piece of who I am.

Before I started writing poetry, I felt like I had to sing other's words. Eventually I realized that my words and thoughts were just as important as anyone's.

Here are a few songs that I did not write, but I consider a part of me because they opened up the possibility that my words were important too.

I'd love to know about other artists and collaborators interested in making poems into songs.

Please reach out if that artist is you!
